H&R Block Free-File Ripoff Scam!

Here's the scam:
1) Go to the IRS free file site, click on H&R Block since you used them last year....

2) Click on 'free file'...

3) Would you like to sign is as a returning customer? Click yes, login, fill out the return and....

BAM!! you're no longer free filing. $29.95 thank you very much.

Other people running into the same thing:

H&R Block misleading "free" federal tax returns

I spoke on the phone to a representative who told me 60% of their calls during the day are complaints about this very problem. She said almost all complaints are denied the refunds and she even told me that nowhere is the customer told that if they access last year's account they lose the offer, that only the H&R Block employee's are privy to that info.

BUT! If you spend 20 minutes on the phone with them I have good news for you. There's a cute little thing on the side of the page that says 'enter your code.'

This is the payement overide for people that are enough of a pain in the ass on the phone like yours truly. I promise you, DO NOT PAY! They will crumple to your demands eventually and give you a little number to type in here that puts a big fat -29.95$ on the invoice.

Now I did happen to write down the code, so if anyone is interested let me know and I'll post it up here... no promise that it'll work again, but it can't hurt to try.

well your blog is great, but I have to say that if the other guy looks anything like his picture and he manages to track me down I may have to acquiesce..
